The upcountry regions, often referring to the central highlands of a country, are known for their cool climate, scenic landscapes, and lush greenery. In Sri Lanka, the upcountry environment, particularly around areas like Nuwara Eliya, Ella, and Kandy, is characterized by misty mountains, cascading waterfalls, and vast tea plantations.

Let's we seen about upcountry tea planting video... 😍

Up-country tea, typically grown in the high elevations of Sri Lanka's central hills, is known for its rich flavor and distinct aroma. This tea is hand-picked from plantations at altitudes above 1,200 meters, where the cool climate and misty conditions create a unique environment for tea cultivation. The leaves are carefully processed and packed to preserve their freshness, offering consumers a high-quality tea experience with a robust and fragrant taste.

Tea Packing Process:

Sorting:

After the tea leaves are harvested, they go through a sorting process, where leaves are separated by size and quality.

Drying and Rolling:

The leaves are withered, rolled, and dried to bring out their flavors. Different methods produce various types of tea, such as black, green, or white tea.

Weighing and Packing:

Once the tea has been processed, it is weighed and packed into bags or boxes. The tea packing process is meticulous to ensure freshness and flavor are preserved. Workers carefully seal the tea, often labeling it by grade and origin.

Export and Distribution:

After packing, tea is distributed locally and internationally, contributing significantly to the economy of upcountry regions like Sri Lanka’s central highlands.

The people in upcountry tea-growing regions are resilient and form the backbone of the tea industry, making them integral to the global tea supply chain.
